We have produced guidance intended to assist owners or managers to self-manage their shallow geothermal bore systems. It is aimed primarily at hotel and motel owners who have geothermally heated swimming pools or mineral pools, or plant such as steam boxes.
These guidelines apply to shallow geothermal bores, which are defined as wells not exceeding 150 metres in depth, and covers the entire system from production to re-injection.
This fact sheet describes the risk posed by high concentrations of hydrogen sulphide, especially in businesses operating or located near geothermal bores. Hydrogen sulphide (H2S) is a toxic gas which occurs in a variety of natural and industrial settings.
