Assessment tools

WorkSafe New Zealand works to reduce serious harm and deaths in forestry. As a regulator we take an ‘educate-engage-enforce’ approach to our work. The Forestry Inspectors Assessment Handbook is a tool that our inspectors use for workplace visits. You can use this handbook to do a self-check of your health and safety systems, tree felling and breaking out practices.

When our inspectors visit your site you can expect them to:

  • focus on how well your safety management system works
  • talk with you, safety representatives and your workers
  • provide advice to those responsible for health & safety
